As we near the end of the current BMSB season, please be reminded of the season ending timelines.
For the 2019-20 BMSB risk season, heightened biosecurity measures will apply to:
- Certain goods manufactured in, or shipped from target risk countries, and/or
- Vessels that berth at, load or tranship from target risk countries.
The measures apply to goods shipped from 1 September 2019 that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2020 (inclusive).
Note that ‘in Australian territory’ does not necessarily refer to the cargo Port of Destination but refers to the vessel carrying cargo being within Australian territory. For example, a vessel that is due into MEL port after 31 May, but is off the coast of the 1st port of call into Australia on or before May 31, is deemed to have arrived in Australian territory for the purpose of BMSB.
Goods shipped between 1 September 2019 and 30 April 2020 need to be treated, and will be referred for intervention if they arrive by 31 May 2020 (inclusive).
For goods that are shipped prior to 30 April 2020 and arrive after 31 May 2020, they may be subject to intervention as required.
Please share this information with your suppliers so that goods are treated as necessary in relation to these timelines.
For queries on a specific order/shipment, please contact your local FJT office for guidance.
